Identification Information: Citation: Citation Information: Originator: OR BLM Publication Date: 19980731 Title: (10 meter) Digital Elevation Model Collection Oregon (Merged into 1 degree buffered blocks) Description: Abstract: A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is a digital data file containing an array of elevation information over a portion of the earth's surface. This array is developed using information extracted from digitized elevation contours from PBS maps. This metadata describes the collection of (10 Meter) Digital Elevation Models which have been merged into 1 degree bufferd blocks, as maintaned by the Bureau of Land Management Oregon State Office. A deatiled description of USGS DEMs can be found at http://rockyweb.cr.usgs.gov/elevation/dpi_dem.html as well as a users guide at ftp://mapping.usgs.gov/pub/ti/DEM/demguide/dugdem.txt. Purpose: DEMs are used to support a wide range of geographic information system (GIS) applications, including: surface hydrologic modeling, slope and aspect determination, viewshed analysis, fire modeling, contouring, transportation route planning, and profile generation. DEMs are also used to rectify aerial photography in the production of Digital Orthophoto Quads (DOQs) Supplemental Information: The Oregon State Office of The BLM maintains this collection in original DEM and GRID format. This was accomplished using the Arc Grid "Merge" command. 2) The 8 possible rows are then combined into a block using the same "Merge" command. Process Date: 08/20/2002 Process Step: Process Description: The block is buffered by the following. 1) Using a one degree by one degree polygon the one degree polygon representing the current area was buffered 1000 meters to create a new polygon. 2) The buffer polygon was then used to set the current data window using the Arc Grid "setwindow" command. Process Date: 08/20/2002 Process Step: Process Description: Each new data set is checked for null data holes. If holes exist they are filled using the average of the values surrounding the hole. Process Date: 08/20/2002 Process Step: Process Description: Data sets are checked again for nulls. If holes persist they are filled by hand using similar value next to missing value. Process Date: 08/20/2002 Process Step: Process Description: Each grid data set is copied to a separate directory and directory is then compressed using winzip.
